The "Diggin' By Law" vinyl project is dedicated to Big City Records in NYC which is closing it's doors for the last time on 8.31.12. This one's for you Jared!
Slice Of Spice has teamed up with Oxygen and Gensu Dean to not only present the original version of the underground classic "Gone Diggin'" for the first time (including an instrumental), but a banging new remix. All mixed by legendary engineer Eddie Sancho and mastered for vinyl by the one and only K-Def. Throw into the mix some incredible art design and photography by Mr. Krum and Dan Love (which we're keeping under wraps for now), plus some bonus tracks by DJ Format and we've got another winning formula for this release.
The official release date for the vinyl is 3rd November, which will be available at the WFMU Record Fair in NYC first, where the artists will be available to sign copies. Pre-orders for the special edition version and bonus vinyl will start in October, please subscribe so you don't miss out. More info here

RICKY from Spine TV on Vimeo.
This film meets Ricky Powell, a native New Yorker whose photographs of iconic people such as the Beastie Boys, Keith Haring and Cindy Crawford made him a pivotal figure in the downtown party scene during the '80s and '90s.
Now 50, Ricky’s lust for photography and music is still strong. Through his eccentricities such as his love for a transistor radio and feeding squirrels in the park, we gain an insight into his everyday life. Retrospective of New York City and how it has changed over his lifetime, he shows us around the city and contemplates what the future holds.

25 Years ago today, August 27th the Hip Hop world lost the legendary Scott La Rock. For all you new jacks Scott was the original dj and co-founder of Boogie Down Productions with KRS-ONE.
Scott was a Social worker in a men's shelter in the Bronx where he met KRS-ONE. Its ironic and sad that Scott being a social worker was shot and killed while trying to help D-Nice squash a beef with another dude.
Scott had a huge hand along with Ultramagnetic's Ced Gee in putting together BDP's classic debut album "Criminal Minded". Scott was killed not long after the albums release while starting work on the groups second LP "By Any Means Necessary". R.I.P. Scott La Rock!!
Here is a classic mix courtesy of Upnorth Trips! Peace!
