DJ Shadow Total Breakdown: Hidden Transmissions from the MPC Era
The folks over at DJ SHADOW.COM are very excited to announce a major new archival release exposing Shadow’s early production on the Akai MPC. Containing entirely unreleased material spanning from 1992 to 1996, the project is entitled, “Total Breakdown: Hidden Transmissions From The MPC Era, 1992-1996.” Included among the highlights are instrumental tracks from an aborted 1994 EP planned with The Gift Of Gab, which includes the original demo of what would eventually become “Six Days.”
The new collection of “MPC Era” tracks follows on from the much-loved “4-Track Era” releases from 2008 and 2009, and establishes a pattern which should be familiar to Shadow fans. “I like to follow up new material (such as the recent ‘The Less You Know, The Better’ LP) with a tastefully-done archival project,” Shadow explains. “As long as the old stuff is given a context and doesn’t overshadow the new, I think it’s a healthy exercise for me, and one that re-calibrates me for whatever new musical path lies ahead. I think it’s important to revisit where you’ve been occasionally so that you can determine where to go.”

98.7 KISS FM R.I.P. (The End of an Era)
It was announced yesterday that the legendary 98.7 KISS FM in NYC will be going off the air as we know it. Whoever held the rights to the frequency sold it to Disney who is turning it into ESPN Radio. Now KISS is combining with long time rival 107.5 WBLS, whatever that means.
I can't lie and say i wasn't a little heartbroken when i heard the news. I was brought up on KISS FM, I learned about every new Hip Hop and Dancehall song from listening to Kool DJ Red Alert every Friday and Saturday night in the late 80's & early 90's. There was no better feeling than after a day of hanging with the boys skating and doing dumb shit than running to the bodega and grabbing a 40 right before Red started dropping future dancehall classics. And by the time you was done drinking said 40 he was hitting you with all the latest and greatest Hip-Hop that you wouldn't hear anywhere else..Red Alert was the PropMaster and had all the illest exclusives and promo's!!!
I mean shit...even as we got a little older we would hang around after Red was done and listen to "Live at Bentleys" with all the Deep house Dj's spinning classic house tracks and R&B Boogie!!
I gathered up some classic KISS FM Radio rips for everyone to get a chance to see what it was like living in the NYC area and how fortunate we were and didn't even know it!! Thanks KISS FM!!!

J Dilla Record Collection For Sale In Detroit
The late great producers record collection was found in a storage bin "storage wars" style. It includes a ton of records, along with mail addressed to James Yancey, lyric books, and a set of cassettes titled Jay-Dee Beats. The collection is for sale at a store called UHF in Roal Oak Michigan. Jeff Bubeck, the shops owner claims he has attempted to contact Ma Dukes and the J Dilla Foundation to share the proceeds, the Foundation, or Ma Dukes has yet to respond. Jeff plans to sell the collection in batches giving everyone a chance to own a piece of Dilla's legacy.
